Metabolic measurement - the principle for more energy

If you have little energy available, you will find it particularly difficult to expend even more energy, e.g. during sport. The inner bastard will always win out here. The aim must therefore be to get these people moving again and to lead them through self-regulation so that they have sufficient or even more energy available. This can only be achieved through an effective or efficient metabolism.

What actually is energy?

Energy can take many forms: Light energy, heat energy, electrical energy or chemical energy. Living organisms require chemical energy to maintain their vital functions.

The most important form of chemically bound energy is ATP (abbreviation for adenosine triphosphate), which is used to maintain biological functions in the human body. Complex molecular processes are responsible for the formation of ATP, which can be severely impaired and damaged by environmental influences, diet, lifestyle and - a fact that many people are unaware of - medication.

Therefore, the principle for more energy can only mean that our body remains as undisturbed as possible in the production of ATP or, at best, is even strengthened.

Why healthy mitochondria are important for energy balance

The human body consists of around 80 trillion cells. Each individual cell in turn has its own "power plants", the mitochondria; in terms of numbers, these are between 1,500 and 4,000, depending on the body cell. The mitochondria provide the energy for all reactions and metabolic processes in the body. Chronic diseases such as allergies, autoimmune diseases, bronchial asthma, high blood pressure, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), burnout, type II diabetes, hormonal disorders, migraines, obesity, etc. are over 90 percent attributable to a lack of energy in the mitochondria.

Sleep disorders, susceptibility to infections and reduced performance are also possible consequences of mitochondrial energy deficiency.

More energy through an efficient metabolism

The prerequisite for being able to provide our body with more energy is therefore an efficient metabolism, which ensures that the necessary nutrients and above all oxygen arrive at the right place in the required quantity.

An almost inexhaustible energy store of around 50,000 kcal is available in the fatty tissue. Fats (more precisely: triglycerides) are released from the stores and gradually broken down into acetyl-CoA by enzymes (lipases). Acetyl-CoA can be introduced into the citrate cycle, which is necessary for successful ATP production. The breakdown of fatty acids provides a large amount of energy (up to 108 mol ATP). In contrast, anaerobic glycolysis (glucose degradation in the absence of oxygen) provides only 2 moles of ATP and aerobic glycolysis (glucose degradation in the presence of oxygen) 36 moles of ATP.

For more energy (ATP production), the resting energy metabolism should therefore be based predominantly on fat burning. The decisive factor is that sufficient oxygen (four times more than for glycolysis) must be available to release energy from fatty acids and is only used to a greater extent during moderate and prolonged exercise. This goal can only be achieved by increasing metabolic efficiency. In order to create the conditions for the cells or mitochondria to use the free fatty acids for oxidation (absorption of oxygen), it is necessary:

Partially depleted glycogen stores - Low insulin levels - Increased glucagon levels - High oxygen utilization - Low acid load - Available free fatty acids
